No. 5 Mary Washington shoots 63% in rout of No. 12 Virginia Wesleyan

No. 12 Virginia Wesleyan had an opportunity to post a signature victory Tuesday, but ran into a buzzsaw in No. 5 Mary Washington.

Kye Robinson scored 29 points on 10-of-13 shooting, and the Eagles shot 63% from the field to ease past the Marlins 89-48 in a men’s basketball game at Ron Rosner Arena in Fredericksburg.

Ulysses Young added 20 points and Jay Randall had 11 for Mary Washington (11-1), which also shot 47.1% from beyond the 3-point arc.

Amari Moorer was the lone double-figure scorer for the Marlins (7-3) with 12 points.

VWU shot 33.3% from the field and 30% from beyond the arc.

Women

No. 18 Washington University 72, Christopher Newport 53: Alyssa Hughes scored 24 points, and the Bears from St. Louis went 13 of 22 (59.1%) from beyond the 3-point line in a victory at the St. Pete Classic in Florida.

McKenna Snively paced CNU (12-3) with 15 points and Madison McKenzie added 12, but the Captains shot just 23.6% from the field and 26.1% (6 of 23) from beyond the arc.

Hughes made six 3-pointers for the Bears (9-2), and Sidney Rogers added 18 points and six rebounds.

CNU saw its 10-game winning streak end.

Virginia Wesleyan 72, Meredith 54: Brianna Long collected 21 points and 14 rebounds as the Marlins (5-4) cruised to a road victory in Raleigh, North Carolina. Bre Robinson added 12 points and five rebounds for VWU.
