Xavier dominates ODU in men’s basketball, HU falls to Boston College

Four players scored 20 points each as Xavier raced to a comfortable early lead and celebrated the 25th anniversary of the first game at Cintas Center with a 99-69 victory over Old Dominion in men’s basketball Tuesday night in Cincinnati.

All Wright, Tre Carroll, Roddie Anderson and Jova Milicevic scored 20 points apiece to spearhead an offense that made 16 of 36 3-point attempts and scored 24 points off turnovers.

The Musketeers (3-2) led 51-29 at halftime and rebounded from back-to-back 19-point losses to Santa Clara and Iowa. Xavier finished with a 48-28 rebounding edge, shot 45.8% from the field and had 29 assists on 33 field goals.

ODU (2-3) dropped its second straight game by 20-plus points following a 96-73 setback against George Washington.

LJ Thomas led the Monarchs with 13 points, followed by Drew McKenna with 12 and Robert Davis Jr. and Caelum Swanton-Rodger with 10 each.

Boston College 63, Hampton 52: Fred Payne scored a game-high 14 points as the Eagles (3-2) held off the Pirates in Boston in the first meeting between the two schools.

Xzavier Long and Daniel Johnson led HU with 11 points each.

Boston College led 37-26 at halftime and never trailed. The Pirates (2-4) shot just 12.5% in the opening 10 minutes of the second half as the Eagles extended their lead to 16 points.

Women’s basketball

Penn 55, Norfolk State 50: The Quakers scored eight of the first 10 points in the final quarter and sealed the game with free throws in Philadelphia.

Penn (4-1) held NSU (2-4) scoreless for nearly five minutes of the fourth period before the Spartans pulled within three with 19 seconds left.

Cire Worley (13 points) and Jasha Clinton (10 points, 12 rebounds) led the Spartans.

Tina Njike led Penn with 12 points and Simone Sawyer finished with 11.
