Thanksgiving day massacre: Ex-husband goes on shooting rampage in Houston home leaving 2 dead, 2 injured
A shooting at a residential home near Houston, Texas, Thanksgiving night left two people dead and two others wounded, authorities said. An adult injured in the shooting is in critical condition.
Houston police are continuing to investigate the scene at 1500 block of Baggett Lane, in Spring Branch, where four people, including three adults and one teenager, were shot. The two surviving victims were transported to the hospital, Fox Houston reported.
HPD Assistant Chief Patricia Cantu said during a briefing Thursday that the family had just finished eating a Thanksgiving meal together when the ex-husband of the deceased came in through the backdoor and opened fire on the family.
“There were four other people inside the house that ran into the rooms for safety,” Cantu said. The suspect unloaded multiple rounds and reloaded the firearm at least once during the rampage, the chief said.
WALMART EMPLOYEE IN CHESAPEAKE, VIRGINIA, KILLS 6 WITH PISTOL, POLICE SAY
The suspect fled the scene.
Police received a call of a shooting in progress at 9:18 p.m. and officers arrived at the scene five minutes later, finding four people shot in the house.
An adult male and an adult female were declared deceased at the scene. A 15-year-old victim is in stable condition while the surviving adult male is in critical condition.
Police said they are not sure of the relationship among the victims at this time as the family invited non-family friends to the gathering.
“This is a very sad situation. It’s Thanksgiving. People are supposed to celebrate with their families,” Cantu said, calling the shooting a “domestic-related incident.”
She added: “We are praying for the families.”

Scotland Is Still Divided On Independence
Scotland Is Still Divided On Independence
The supreme court in the UK announced this week that it has ruled there to be no legal basis for a Scottish independence referendum taking place without the consent of Westminster.
As Statista’s Martin Armstrong reports, the ruling now puts the issue “back in the political court”, as summarized by one Scottish MP, with First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirming in a press conference that the SNP is now likely to campaign in the next election solely on the question of independence – creating a de-facto referendum, with a convincing win then used as evidence for the legitimate need for a second vote on the issue.
Taking a different approach, Alex Salmond, former SNP first minister and now leader of the Alba party, has said in response to the supreme court ruling that nationalists should now embark on “a civic campaign of protest and action”.
In London, Scottish secretary Alister Jack reacted to the news, urging politicians in the country to now refocus:
“People in Scotland want both their governments to be concentrating all attention and resources on the issues that matter most to them”, he said, citing a stable economy, energy bills and the NHS as matters he feels are more important.
As the latest polling figures show, however, while a slim majority of people in Scotland are against independence, the country is still starkly divided on the matter.
You will find more infographics at Statista
In the first referendum in 2014, 45 percent of voters opted to support the push for independence, but looking at the average of the four most recent polls that share could increase to 49 percent if a new vote was held now – suggesting it is still something which matters a lot to a large proportion of Scottish society. A second vote for now though, will have to wait.

Elon Musk says Twitter’s new multicoloured verification will launch next week
After messing up the first launch of Twitter’s “power to the people” verification system, Elon Musk said that the social network will tentatively roll out a new multicolored verification system next week.
The owner of Twitter said that, under this scheme, companies will get a gold checkmark, government officials will get a grey checkmark — probably similar to the “official” checkmark it’s currently trying out with some prominent accounts — and the blue checkmark will be dedicated to individuals even if they are not celebrities. That would mean that the blue check mark will be used with legacy verified accounts and folks who buy Twitter’s new $8 per month paid plan.
Musk added that the company aims to manually authenticate all verifications before the new verification system goes live. It’s not clear what he means by that as Twitter Blue subscribers will get a blue checkmark. Not only that, but Twitter’s reduced workforce will be under pressure to check every verification manually to avoid any impersonation or spam.
Sorry for the delay, we’re tentatively launching Verified on Friday next week.
Gold check for companies, grey check for government, blue for individuals (celebrity or not) and all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates.
Painful, but necessary.

Musk further explained that individuals can have a second tiny logo to note if they are part of a certain organization. That organization also has to verify that the individual represents them or works with them in some way. He added that decision to apply blue checkmark to all individual accounts was taken as notability of a person is a subjective matter.
All verified individual humans will have same blue check, as boundary of what constitutes “notable” is otherwise too subjective.
Individuals can have secondary tiny logo showing they belong to an org if verified as such by that org.
Longer explanation next week.

Earlier this month, Musk paused the revamped Twitter Blue program and said it would resume on November 29. However, this week, the Tesla CEO put this plan on hold until “there is a high level of stopping impersonation.” Notably, this was the first time he talked about using multiple colors for verification.
He didn’t specify if this new verification scheme will occur at the same time as the rollout of the relaunch of Twitter Blue. It’s likely that this verification relaunch is for existing verified accounts, companies, and government officials — and not paid subscribers — at the moment.
Twitter took another step to stop spam and fake accounts when Twitter Blue is finally relaunched. Last week, the company changed its terms so that newly created accounts have to wait 90 days from the date of account creation before they can buy a Twitter Blue subscription.
When Musk-led Twitter first rolled out the new verification program on November 9, many accounts began impersonating brands, athletes, and celebrities. That caused Twitter to halt the project immediately. Now, he is taking all measures possible to avoid that kind of chaos again.
Earlier today, Musk said that Twitter will offer all suspended accounts “a general amnesty” starting next week based on the result of the poll he ran a few days ago.
